Effective for the Eden Earth iOS app (bundle ID com.edenearth.app) and website at www.edenearthapp.com.

1. Who we are

Eden Earth ("Eden Earth," "we," "us," or "our") is an iOS and web application operated by Julian Block (individual) that helps people log environmental cleanups, join local groups, set reminders, and share estimated ocean impact. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

2. Information we collect

We may collect:

  • Account information — email address, password (hashed by our auth provider), and display name.
  • Profile information — city, bio, cause, optional age, optional gender, avatar and cover photos, and onboarding preferences.
  • Usage and impact data — eco actions you log, streak and EcoScore data, share badges, group membership, event RSVPs, in-group messages, and reminder preferences you set.
  • Photos and camera content — images you capture or choose for cleanup before/after logs, group covers, and profile/cover photos. Camera and photo library access are requested only when you use those features and can be revoked in iOS Settings.
  • Push notification tokens — if you allow notifications, we store an Expo/APNs push token on your profile so we can deliver reminders you schedule (cleanup nudges, streak, group, custom messages).
  • Device and diagnostics — approximate device type, OS version, app version, crash logs, and basic performance data needed to keep the app reliable.
  • Marketing site analytics — limited page-view and CTA events on our website (and optional beta waitlist name/email/role) to understand interest in Eden Earth. We do not sell this data.

We do not require precise GPS location to use the core app. City and event places are based on what you or other users provide.

3. App Store privacy labels (summary)

For Apple App Privacy disclosures, Eden Earth may collect the following categories linked to your identity for app functionality (not for third-party advertising):

  • Contact Info (email, name)
  • User Content (photos, messages, posts, profile text)
  • Identifiers (account ID, push token)
  • Usage Data (feature interactions, logged actions)
  • Diagnostics (crash / performance, where available)

We do not use your data for tracking across other companies' apps or websites as defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. We do not run third-party advertising SDKs in the iOS app.

4. How we use information

  • Create and secure your account
  • Provide EcoScore, streaks, badges, groups, events, messaging, and reminders
  • Analyze cleanup before/after photos you submit (including via AI vision models) to produce estimated impact summaries
  • Moderate unsafe or abusive content and enforce our Terms
  • Send the optional product / cleanup reminders you enable
  • Improve reliability, fix bugs, and understand feature usage in aggregate
  • Comply with law and protect users, the service, and our rights

5. AI processing

When you complete a cleanup log with before and after photos, those images and related prompts may be sent to third-party AI providers (currently Google Gemini Flash models via our backend) to generate classifications and impact estimates. Photos are compressed before upload. Do not submit images of other people without permission, or any content you do not want processed for this purpose.

All impact figures — including plastic grams, bottle-equivalents, and any "animals saved," turtle, bird, bug, or marine-life units — are AI estimates only. They are not scientific counts and do not mean a specific animal was rescued. Treat outputs as guidance. We may log anonymized analytics about vision usage to operate the feature.

6. Push notifications

Notifications are optional. If you grant permission, we schedule local and/or remote reminders based on preferences you choose in the app (for example cleanup nudges, log reminders, streak protection, group check-ins, or a custom message). You can disable notifications in iOS Settings → Eden Earth, or turn reminders off in the app. Declining notification permission does not block core logging or group features.

7. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-app tracking. We share data only as needed to run Eden Earth:

  • Service providers — hosting, database/auth/storage (e.g. Supabase), AI inference (e.g. Google), push delivery (e.g. Apple Push Notification service / Expo), and infrastructure partners who process data on our instructions.
  • Other users — profile details, posts, event RSVPs, group photos/scores, and messages you choose to share are visible to other participants as designed in the product.
  • Legal / safety — when required by law, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or security issues.
  • Business transfer — if Eden Earth is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may transfer under continued confidentiality obligations.

8. Data retention

We keep account and impact data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data associated with it within a reasonable period (typically within 30 days), except where we must retain limited records for security, dispute resolution, backups, or legal compliance. Community content you posted may remain in de-identified or residual form if removal would break other users' threads; contact us if you need specific content removed.

9. Account deletion

You may request deletion of your Eden Earth account and associated personal data at any time by emailing support@edenearthapp.com from the email address on your account with the subject line "Delete my Eden Earth account." We will confirm and complete deletion within a reasonable period, subject to the retention limits above. You may also contact support via /support.

10. Your choices and rights

  • Update profile and cover information in the app
  • Control camera, photos, and notification permissions in iOS Settings
  • Request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data
  • Opt out of optional reminders in the app

Depending on where you live (including California and the EEA/UK), you may have additional rights such as portability, restriction of processing, or to object to certain processing. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.

11. Children

Eden Earth is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it. Parents or guardians who allow a teen (13+) to use the app are responsible for supervising that use.

12. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards such as encrypted transport (HTTPS), access controls, and provider-managed authentication. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong unique password and protect your device.

13. International transfers

We may process information in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws than your home country.

14. Third-party links and stores

The App Store, TestFlight, social platforms, or linked sites have their own privacy practices. Apple's handling of purchases, Apple ID, device data, and push delivery is governed by Apple's policies, not this one.

15. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated date. Material changes may also be noted in the app or by email when appropriate. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
